In the case of secondary lymphedema, the edema occurs due to damage to the lymphatic system caused by external or internal factors.
The most common cause of the appearance of secondary lymphedema is after undergoing a lymphadenectomy in oncological procedures.
To treat it, we use Complex or Combined Decongestive Therapy, which is the globally recognized general treatment, consisting of:
5. Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD)
6. Compression (multilayer compression bandaging and compression sleeve or stocking)
7. Decongestive kinesitherapy (exercises)
8. Hygienic measures (skin care and infection prevention).
There are different schools of manual lymphatic drainage: Vodder, Leduc, Godoy…
